This is a collection of random musings that are not particularly focused, eloquent or even coherent. You see, even
writers need time off so this is my virtual slacking room where I write stuff without really thinking about it too much.

The End of an Era

I’m getting married on October 19, almost exactly two years since my first wedding. Those of you who have read my stuff circa 2006 will have seen numerous references to marriage and then a sudden silence on the matter. I didn’t feel it was right to talk about what happened but as I approach my second marriage, I want to put it all behind me.

My initial presence on the web was a rudimentary record of the trials and tribulations facing me as a young woman going through the arranged marriage process. For completeness’ sake, that can be found here.

After seeing a long line of suitors, I eventually said yes to one. The reasons behind that decision were explained in a blog entry.

I got married on 29 October 2006. It lasted two and half days. The writing-it-out-of-my-system can be found here.

As I head into my second marriage, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous. I’m a selfish person by nature. I look after number one first and foremost; I have all the clichéd problems with intimacy; I’m neurotic and hate people messing about with my space and stuff; I’m argumentative, competitive, uncompromising, spiteful and manipulative; and I can’t cook.

They’re not exactly desirable qualities in a wife. I’m not expecting marriage to be easy but if my Lucky Number Seven is willing to put up with me, I’m sure as hell going to make it work.

And hey, if I fail, there’s always third time lucky, right? (That was a joke).

I wish you all the best in this and knowing you, you'll do everything and anything to make it work if that's what you want.

Worry not, for this time you're entering with your eyes open.....

Good luck, Kia!

I’m sure, second time round, you know exactly what youre doing – if its any consolation, you certainly sound a lot more confident on the whole marriage issue now.

and fwiw, you give fellow incompetent cooks like myself some hope in finding someone too! ;)

PS Don’t be so negative and hard on yourself.

Lol and thanks :) I remember your comment on Shak's blog "She can't cook either!" You'd think we would have learnt after all these years!

Thanks. As for your email... we're not having a wedding, just a nikah. Though I have a sneaking suspicion it's going to turn into a small (read: big) wedding.

Hi, just wanted to say that I wish you all the best. Having read the attchments you really have been through a lot and you deserve happiness. Marriage is hard work - believe me I'm exhausted after only 5 years!! - but you're going into this out of choice, with no feeling of obligation, and you'll make it work.

As a complete outsider, I just wanted to say how moving I found your account of your first marriage, and how impressive it is that a 23 year old of any culture would hold strong against some powerful social influences.

Thank you for sharing it.
