Good Asian Girl

I have realised that I am a Good Asian Girl at heart. Sure, I do stuff that isn’t exactly exemplary of Good Asian Girl behaviour but despite cracking dirty jokes, perving on random guys and being generally amoral, I think I still harbour traditional values at heart.

What brought this about? I was at an event recently where a B-list Asian celebrity – I won’t say who – was bumping and grinding with an Asian girl. The first thought that entered my head was, “God, I hope that’s his girlfriend!” For some reason, despite being a “modern Asian woman”, I was still shocked that a random girl would act this way around a guy simply because he was in the public eye.

Don’t get me wrong, if Johnny Depp walked up to me any place, any time and wanted to dirty dance (or anything else for that matter) I’d be pretty damn inclined to say yes BUT the tableau in front of me still rattled my sensibilities. I know, I know I’m acting like a grandma but that, in itself, is what tells me that yes, I AM a good Asian girl at heart. Woot woot.
